Heavenly Trail to Svaneti

Svaneti is a landscape of high snow-capped peaks, forested hills and spectacular valleys. Winding roads lead to hidden villages dotted with medieval watchtowers. It's deep in the Svaneti region, known for its unique culture that was once cut off from the rest of the country.

Day 1

Tbilisi – Uplistsikhe Cave Complex (1st c. BC– Bagrati Cathedral (11 c.)– Gelati Cathedral (12 -17 c.).

Georgia is a home of the most unusual cave cities in Europe. The oldest is Uplitstsikhe, an ancient settlement that resembles a lunar landscape.Georgia has a magnificent 1,300 year old tradition of architecture. Bagrati and Gelati Cathedral are one of the most significant expressions of the nation’s artistic vision and heritage.

Day 2

Kutaisi–Mestia­– Mestia Ethnographical Museum

Mestia is located at an elevation of 1,500 metres that contains a number of medieval monuments, such as churches and forts, included in a list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The main thing that attracts and captivates every visitor is the breathtaking landscape, snow-covered mountains and magnificent starry sky of Svaneti.You will have amazing opportunity to travel inside the ethnographical museum and see exponents discovered during archeological excavations and numismatic samples. Museum has special halls of Christian treasure, where visitors have opportunity to see IX-XVIII century masterpieces.

Day 3

Mestia ­–Chalaadi Glacier – Mt. Hatsvali –Mestia

Early in the morning at 09:00 drive directly to Chalaadi Glacier. The road is compared to a heavenly trail, and is an inspiration for most of people who visited this place. Chalaadi is the only glacier in Georgia with its tongue extending below 2000m into the treeā€line. Later go up to Mt. Hatsvali by cable car and get inspiration from Mt. Ushba and its dazzling panoramic views.

Day 4

Mestia - Village Ushguli –Mestia

Way up in the Caucasus Mountains around 2,200 meters above sea level, this small village is Europe's highest continuously inhabited settlement. Sitting at the foot of Mount Shkhara, Georgia's highest point, Ushguli is famous for the medieval defensive towers connected to each house. The 12th century Lamaria church set against the backdrop of this snow-capped giant is a sight you will remember for the rest of your life.

Day 5

Mestia –Martvili Canyon­– Tbilisi

Early in the morning drive to the direction of Tbilisi. On the way visit Martvili Canyon.Martivili Canyon is one of Georgia’s most beautiful and rare nature spots that one should see and experience while staying in Georgia. Many years ago Martvili canyons used to be a bath place for Georgian nobles, Dadiani family, but now it represents a touristic site where people walk around, enjoy the incredible scenery of the waterfalls, crystal-clear river surrounded with green forest that is reflected in the water and strengthens its emerald color.

Drive Back to Tbilisi
