Hidden pearl of Georgia

Tucked away in the Caucasus in Georgia’s far northeast corner, Tusheti is an ever more popular summer hiking and horse-trekking area.

The scenery everywhere is a spectacular mix of snow-covered rocky peaks, deep gorges, tower-dotted villages and steep, grassy hillsides where distant flocks of sheep appear as slowly shifting patterns of white specks.

Day 1

  • Arrival in Tbilisi

Tour to historical Tbilisi and Mtskheta

  • Holy Trinity Cathedral
  • Metekhi Church (12th c.)
  • Narikala Fortress (4th c.)
  • Abanotubani (Bath quarter)
  • Anchiskhati Basilica (6th c.)
  • Sioni Cathedral (7th c.)
  • Jvari Monastery (6th c.)
  • Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (11th c.)

Day 3

  • Tbilisi
  • Telavi city
  • Abano pass (2926m ASL)
  • Tower village of Omalo (center of the region)
  • Keselo

Early in the morning, drive directly to magnificent Tusheti.Centuries-old koshkebi (stone defence and refuge towers) still stand in many villages, and evidence of Tusheti’s old animist religion is plentiful in the form of stone shrines called khatebi (singular: khati) decked with the horns of sacrificed goats or sheep.The whole area is under environmental protection as the Tusheti Protected Areas (1137 sq km).

Overnight in Omalo.

Day 4

  • Dartlo
  • Kvaklo
  • Parsma

You can either walk or drive half way around Piriqita valley. This day you will visit medieval century’s tower villages: Dartlo, Kvalo, Parsma.

Driving back to Omalo.

Day 5

  • Bochorna  
  • Dochu
  • Begela
  • Jvarboseli

Walking (or driving half way) to Gometsari Valley, visiting medieval centuries tower villages: Bochorna, Dochu, Begela, Jvarboseli.

Driving back to Omalo.

Day 6                                                                                                                                    

  • Shenako
  • Diklo

Visiting village of Shenako and old diklo area (close to the border of Russia). Also, hiking up to the Old fortifications on the spectacular location. We can drive to Shenako and then walk or just walk all the way up to Diklo (abou15 km one way).

Back to Omalo.

Day 7

  • Abano Pass
  • Sighnaghi

Driving back to lowland via Abano pass and arrive in Sighnagi - medieval century’s village, on the hill of small Caucasus. Sighnaghi serves as a popular tourist destination due to its location at the heart of Georgia's wine-growing regions, as well as its picturesque landscapes, pastel houses and narrow, cobblestone streets. Exactly have you will taste wines made in kakhetian style using Qvevry (terracotta pots).

Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 8

  • Transfer to the airport.
  • Departure from Tbilisi.
